There are five (5) Wednesdays in March, June, September and December for calendar year 2010. The Recycling Schedule is based on a 4 week month and does not account for the 5th week in the months listed above for this year. There will not be any pickups for recycling on the fifth week of any month containing 5 weeks. The Recycling Schedule will continue its normal (1st and 3rd/ 2nd and 4th) schedule beginning the first week in April.

If you ran out of Green recycling bags, you can go by the City Sanitation Dept to get more bags. Have questions? email us at info@greenstarkville.org How the program worksYou can sign up starting this Saturday (August 29th) at the Community Market, from 8:00AM till 11:00AM, and at the Sanitation Department during the week days from 7:00 AM till 4:00PM. Sign-up at the Community Market is available every Saturday ONLY Starkville residents who receive curbside trash pickup can take advantage of this program. Bring your ID and an electric bill with you when you come to sign up. When you sign up, you will get green translucent bags. You must use these bags to collect your recyclables and place them at the curb every other Wednesday, as detailed below. The first curbside recycling pickup will take place on Wednesday October 7th, 2009 What goes in the bag| Plastic | Plastic bags, shrink wrap, milk jugs, any beverage bottles, detergent containers, bleach and detergent containers, potting pots, and nursing pots. | | Cardboard | Corrugated cardboard, cereal boxes, cracker boxes, shoe boxes, juice boxes and cartons, milk and cream cartons, egg cartons. | | Office Paper | Any of your white or light color paper such as printing paper, envelops, sticky notes, bills, and postcards. | | Mixed Paper | Dark colored paper, phone books, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, glossy paper, grocery paper containers such as sugar bags and cat food bags (as long as it doesn't have plastic wraps on the inside), junk mail, juice and milk cartons. Also newspapers and inserts. | | Scrap Metal | Aluminum cans, and steal cans such as food cans. |
Recycling Do's and Don'ts- ALL recyclables go in the bag
- Wash out any food residue left in food containers.
- Recycling bags must be tied placed at curb by 6:30AM of the pick up day
- All recycling pickups will be on Wednesdays ONLY. There will be no recycling pickups on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Monday and Thursday residential routes will be picked up on 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month
Tuesday and Friday residential routes will be picked up on 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month
