Recycling

Recycling is the third R of the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Recycling is taking a product or material at the end of its useful life and turning it into a usable raw material to make another product. Recycling is very important because it saves a lot of our natural resources. Check our Fun Facts section to learn more about the importances of recycling.

Most of our trash can be recycled. Trash comes from many sources, including bottles, boxes, cans, yard trimmings, grass clippings, furniture, clothing, newspapers, office paper, tires, appliances, and much more. The U.S. is the #1 trash-producing country in the world at 1,609 pounds per person per year. This means that 5% of the world's people generate 40% of the world's waste.

Knowing that every ton of recycled steel saves 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,000 of coal, and 40 pounds of limestone. Every ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water! We can see the importance of recycling.

Recycling is easy. Collect the recyclables, take them to the drop-off location, and your done. You've saved many trees and participated in the sustainability of natural resources for our children. This guide provides information about how to recycle, why to recycle and what you can recycle.
